There are many situations where people suffering from fear of dogs have to take special care. This is the case no matter the age of the person suffering from this condition. So if you are with a person who is suffering from this condition and they have come in close contact with a canine, then they may be suffering from a panic attack. Now, if you are going to help them, there are many things that you will have to keep in mind. The first and foremost is that you are going to help them by removing the canine from the vicinity and rendering first aid. So keeping these two things in mind, here are some tips for helping them. Remove the Canine The first thing that you can do is to remove the dog from the close vicinity of the person suffering from the panic attack. You can do this by either taking the leash of the dog from that person who is the owner and then tying it to a place or a peg that is far from the person suffering from the panic attack, or if the dog is not with their owner, and there is a still a collar with them, you can use our own belt to tie them to a place that is far away from the person suffering the panic attack. Disperse the Crowd The next step is to make sure that the people who have gathered around the person suffering from cynophobia are not too many. As there are many incidents where the panic attack was aggravated by the mere presence of a large crowd. So when you return from taking care of the canine, politely ask the people around the victim to leave him and disperse. This will not only allow the victim to find a better condition of breathing, but it will also alleviate the symptoms of his panic attack. Take care of other Phobias Another important step to take is to ask if there are any other phobias that he may be suffering from. There are many people that suffer from mysophobia along with a fear of dogs, so if your victim is one of these people you should make sure that there are no other objects that are going to aggravate his attacks further. You can do this by removing any dirty objects that he may be in close contact with and removing him from close contact with dust. Do not stigmatize afterward When you are helping a person suffering from a panic attack, the most important thing to keep in mind is that they are not in the normal state of mental order. So they may say and act differently from a normal person. This does not mean that they are mental patients, and they should not be treated with any disrespect afterward. So after the attack has been dealt with there should not be any stigma attached with their episode. You should just act as if it something that they take care of every day. Keep yourself safe When people suffer from panic attacks, they are prone to lash out. So if you are going to help them, make sure that you are not in the harm's way yourself. This can be done quite easily. The first thing to keep in mind is that the person suffering from the attack is not acting normally, so they will not respond to normal stimulus. Therefore you will have to take steps to make sure that they are getting your message. The next step is to remove anything from within their reach that they may use to hurt you, or others. So, to conclude, the best way to help a person who is suffering from a panic attack due to their fear of dogs is to make sure that the triggering object, which in this case will be a dog; has been removed from the close proximity of the victim and that they are no longer receiving stimulus from that object. They should be made calm and given proper help, and care should be taken that other phobias are not triggered in the process.
